Four New Restaurants and Bars for the New Year in Athens

The new year brings in new opportunities for growth, creativity, and fun. Even though the pandemic continues, happier days are on the horizon, even if it’s just an outing with our fam or good friends. Here are our recommendations for four brand-new restaurants and bars to try in your next outing in Athens.

Up in Kifissia, The Amorous Project (Agiou Dimitriou 8; 2108089890) has all the city’s foodies talking. This restaurant-café is inspired by early twentieth-century New York and has the vintage decorations and dining gear to prove it. The menu is a mix of light favorites and hip, artistic dishes, from salads and burgers to a black pizza with handmade pastrami and Jack Daniel’s sauce.

Meanwhile in Neo Psychiko, Zebra Bar (Perikleous 7; 6986391009) is the talked-about cocktail bar of the season. Mixed up by a legendary Greek mixologist, reviewers have raved about their dry martini, the Naked & Famous Last Words with mezcal and strawberry, and the Palo Santo with Jamaican Rum. Pair your drink with a sea bass ceviche with mango and quinoa or a beef tataki with truffle yuzu sauce.

Looking for something a bit more kid-friendly? Head to Mr. Jack Robin (Andrea Papandreou 22; 2106830314) in Halandri. Inspired by diners like Big Boy’s, this stop has pure American fare, from fried chicken to pastrami sandwiches to hotdogs with sauerkraut and caramelized onions. They also have a range of classic burgers and sides, including a dramatic French fries with bacon and eggs.

Finally, down south in Piraeus, Kitschen (Kanari 5; 2117351205) has been making waves. Run by two Greek-Asians, this dim sum bar serves up signature cocktails alongside light bites like dumplings, soup, and sushi. Try the Miyagi’s Touch with London dry gin and green apple or the Funky Chen with vodka and cranberry. Pair them with dumplings filled with beef, pork, or even beetroot and walnut.
