Events in Athens: “Views of Fantasy” Literature Festival and “Goethe is Game” Comics Workshop

Coming up:

Channel your inner geek this weekend with publishing house Universal Pathways’ “Views of Fantasy” Festival of Greek Fantasy Literature on May 13th at Athinaion Politeion cafe-bar in Thiseio!

Greece’s only festival for fantasy literature features the fiction and poetry of hundreds of Greek writers published through universal pathways. Readings from noon until 11:00 PM will feature fantastical stories and poems by Greek authors, including a creative writing workshop hosted by writer Georgia Hioni. At 10:15 PM, Universal Pathways will present the winners of their very own Larry Niven Award for Fantasy Literature 2016. A wide range of the publishing house’s books will be also be on display for sale throughout the day

The festival will kick off with Greece’s first Celebration of Fairytales, featuring talks from writers Nena Boura and Anastasia Neraidon and readings from the Greek fairytale genre, including the aforementioned writers’ own works “The Nail of the Louvre”, “The Mermaid’s Seargent”, and many more enchanting tales!

17361685_787607948061422_8036704917576619965_nSecretly obsessed with comics? Next Tuesday, May 16, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM, the Goethe Institute of Athens (Omirou 14-16) is hosting a workshop on the art of comics!

The latest of the “Goethe is Game” series of events that celebrates the diversity of play and games in modern culture, the workshop will take place for two hours and guide attendees on all they need to make their own comic stories, through demonstrations, lessons and even an improvisation activity! Advanced drawing skills are not required—as the event page says, “all you need is the desire to tell a story”.

The event is hosted by comics artist Dimitra Adamopoulou and storytelling expert, member of Comidom Press, and co-founder of the Athens Comics Library Vasilia Vaxevani.
