Fall is in full swing, and what’s a better way to enjoy a crisp autumn day (or rather, a sunny Greek day!) than going out for a cuppa with friends? Below are our recommendations for four new cafes that are taking the city by storm this fall.
Hipster food critics have been raving about The Architects of Time (Plateia Agion Theodoron 3; 6980279538) downtown. This indie café-bar hosts rotating art exhibits on its walls and dishes up high-quality food and drinks from brunch to nightfall. Indulge in a delicate handmade pinsa, an open-faced sandwich with tofu and vegetables, or classic eggs on avocado toast. At night, try one of their lauded cocktails.

If you’re into vegan cuisine (or just want to hang out where all the kids are going), head to Holy Llama (Nikis 23; 2103318913) in Syntagma. This vegan bakery café is next-level creative in dishing up animal-product-free treats and brunch. Try the vegan English breakfast with tofu eggs and tempeh bacon, the pistachio croissant, the praline cruffin (croissant muffin), or the mushroom kourou pie.

Further towards the suburbs, The Blind Spot in Pangrati (Efranoros 22; 2107015594) and Halandri (Agias Paraskevis 29; 2111187135) is a go-to space for the in-the-know café-goers. This unassuming café offers artisanal coffee blends and comforting brunch dishes. Indulge in a roast beef sandwich, chicken bagel with tomatoes and pesto, soba noodles with salmon, or a simple yoghurt fruit bowl. Top it off with a delightfully small cinnamon roll.

Finally, in the southern neighbourhood of Nea Smyrni, Mini Habits (25is Martiou 25; 2109311745) will take the café world by storm soon. This offshoot of the popular bar New Habits serves up specialist coffee and a select but delectable line of sandwiches. Try the classic club sandwich, bao bun with shrimp, or chicken tacos. Stop by in the evening for a glass of Sao Paolo, one of their signature cocktails with passion fruit and salted caramel.

Here’s to a warm and cosy fall and to many beautiful outings to follow!
