Delivery has become a way of life for many of us now in the pandemic. With Valentine’s Day coming up, however—alongside the regular birthday and anniversaries—there is a range of gourmet eateries that have started delivery services. Below are our four recommendations for the best restaurants that delivery gourmet cuisine (with a dash a romance!) in Athens.
Brits and tea-lovers, rejoice—the Hotel Grand Bretagne (Vasileos Georgiou 1; 2103330000) downtown has just started their Tea Me Away service, which delivers a full afternoon tea spread to your home. The spread includes a three-tier cake stand and a box of their finest tea selections. Highlights from the menu include King Crab on linseed bread, roast beef sandwich, milk chocolate ginger cookies, and almond scones with jam and clotted cream. (Note: The hotel also has brunch and four-course meal delivery menus, albeit on the pricey end.)
However, if you’re looking for a Greek gourmet experience, look no further than Cookoo (wolt.com/en/grc/athens/restaurant/cookoovaya), the delivery service set up by Cookoovaya (Hatzigianni Mexi 2A; 2107235005), one of Athens’s best upscale eateries downtown. Indulge in an open-face truffle pie with cream and beef fillet, beef cheek with eggplant puree and Cretan graviera cheese, or grilled seabream club sandwich with roasted zucchini.
Miss the romance of a low-lit Italian trattoria? Order from Trattoria Italia d’Onofrio (Ironda 6;2107252003) in Pangrati. This legendary restaurant dishes up a select array of handmade Italian pasta. Try the classic Napoletana, the Alla Norma with eggplant, or the Mare e Monti with mussels, squid, and mushrooms. They also have vegan versions of several of the dishes, including vegan gnocchi.
Finally, when you want some gourmet food sans the frills and flounces, order from Prigkipas in Alimo (Leoforos Vouliagmenis 560; 2111824242) and Exarheia (Harilaou Trikoupi 23; 2114050070). This gourmet “souvlakerie” dishes up souvlaki and sandwiches with black pork, buffalo, beef liver, and lamb. Fish-lovers can also try wraps with trout and eel, while vegans can have a veggie burger wrap.
